Mining First Aid

It is compulsory (by law) that every employee on a mine be in posession of a valid first aid certificate. This certificate is only valid for three years and employees are required to have it renewed.

First aid (Level 1) is presented at CTC in a 5 day course during which time the student receives theoretical as well as practical training.

  • Principles of first aid
  • Action in an emergency
  • Multiple casualties and injuries
  • The recovery position
  • Asphyxia

  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Bites and stings
  • Poisons
  • Shock
  • Burns

  • Environmental conditions
  • Dressings and bandages
  • Fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries
  • Spinal injury
  • Moving the casualty
